So tiiiired...

But no chance of sleeeep.

I said I'd stop at the end of the second Coke.

So Thomas bought me a third one. Which I finished. Oops.

Maybe I'll go to bed anyway. The later I go to bed, the earlier I wake up, and it's already eleven o'clock.

In other news, tonight was the talk from some guy at ProgSoc on Open Source or something. He seemed to spend a lot of time saying things to the effect of "So. What do you guys think of PostgreSQL?" and expecting this to be enough. I started zoning out when they got into a deep discussion of various virtualisation technologies - it was all very knowledgable, but not really my interest, and certainly not my field. He also went on a moderately long rant about his dislike of MySQL. And Squiz - it's a shame Rob missed that one, though I have a feeling he wouldn't have contributed much beyond "OHGODSYES" or something along those lines.

SHIVERING!

For dinner, we (Noah, Thomas, Nora, John, Jedd, myself) headed to the Lansdowne. Nora did her best 'turtle' impression when people (primarily Jedd) made jokes that she disliked. And I had three Cokes. Oops. I broke Jedd's brain a little by failing at pop culture; yay for me.

In other other news, I have no idea what I'm doing this weekend.

I might wind up doing something with Chris, but he's supposed to be either babysitting his sister and her boyfriend, or going to Ikea to find furniture. Plus he wants to visit Smash on Saturday and "annoy Rob" (assuming he can actually get a hold of Rob - I get the impression there will be a certain level of 'Running around like a headless chicken' involved on Rob's part). But if the "coming down with something" he was complaining of today continues, my bet is he'll be flat out in bed trying to sleep it off.

So. Any bids?

I took everything you ever let me have, and then I never loved you back... [Oct. 25th, 2007|11:36 pm]

[mood | sick]
[music |(Praise Chorus), Jimmy Eat World]

Today was pretty good. Except for a slightly sucky finish, but whatever.

Read the Internet this morning. All of EGG's talk of cake made me want to cook something, so I ended up baking cupcakes.

Wound up at Uni just after twelve. Visited the Union's Fair Day for free lunch. Yay. Gave a guy with a fishtank on his head a cupcake. Pointed out to a guy that there were two layers of perspex in said fishtank. Listened to some semi-random person, Tanya, tell Will about a girl she had seen in a dream that "was perfect for you... And then she was on my train! She was weirded out by me staring at her, though..." ...She seemed to assume we were a couple because we were chatting. ...Huh? *shakes head*

Chris swung past briefly, in between wanting to strangle his teammates. Or something.

Will and I headed over to the ProgSoc room. Hung around, doing various chores, chatting, and generally procrastinating. Thomas visited in his lunch break, to have a discussion with Will about the virtues of burlesque; and whether James should do a strip show in the Atrium.

I then went over to the Union to ask to pay my zero dollars; they basically patted me on the head. *pouts*

Brief visit to EGG, then back to the room to continue to fail to accomplish stuff. I eventually got bored enough to start documenting the junk in the ProgSoc room. Anyone know how much a Cisco 2900 is worth?

At 6 o'clock, we headed over to the Glass House for the Union trivia night. Free food, (mostly) free drinks - we bought the first one, but they were giving away drinks vouchers to excess. At the end of it, somehow, our table had managed to walk away with the second-place position. How that works, I have no idea. We weren't even cheating! *gasp* Thomas maintains that it's probably that we were the only semi-sober table present, which I'm not about to argue with. Anyway, second prize is a $500 cheque, which is certainly nothing to be sneezed at. It'll probably go towards the purchase of a rack to store the new machines in.

After it finished, I'd had so much Coke I was pretty literally bouncing off the walls. Amy and I got into a "Run around chasing after each other giggling madly and trying to bash a balloon out of each others' hands" fight, while the EGG boys looked on and shook their heads. There were frequent "Are they drunk?"s muttered. Rob kept pointing out that I don't actually drink alcohol, and this was merely a sugar high, but I don't think they believed him.
By the end of it, though, the sugar excess was starting to kick in to the point of nausea. Still giggly, but I quietened down a little. When Chris returned from chatting to Selphie, we wandered back to the room. I completed a couple of minor chores, and then dragged him away from troubleshooting to head home.

I got to the bus stop on time, but the bus driver ignored me. Pelted down to the next one, and managed to make it; the guy was firmly unapologetic. *fury* And now my cough's triggered and my teeth hurt and I need a bath badly. Gah. (As I said: good day, except for the sucky ending.)

So, I guess I'd better crash. I have a team meeting at ten o'clock, and I've told Chris I'm going to try and be in at around nine. And as I said, I badly need a bath before I go to bed.

[music |Baby Got Back, Jonathan Coulton]

Chris and I are attending a production of Rent that Rob is performing in.

Rob: How much are tickets?
Mm: $35. Plus booking fee.
Rob: Bloody Hell. I need to talk to Penny about it.
Mm: I don't think you'll be able to convince them to refund the money.
Rob: Yeah, but I can say "What are you thinking?"
Mm: Last I heard, any profits are going to charity, anyway.
Chris: Which charity?
Rob: The AIDS Foundation of Australia.
Chris: So, AIDS is going up, is it?

I was unable to speak for the next minute or so for laughing. But that may have been the Coke.

Hand in hand to the electronic renaissance is the way to go, boy... [Jul. 28th, 2007|08:21 pm]

[mood | cheerful]
[music |Electric Renaissance, Belle & Sebastian]

Okay, let's do an attempt at a non-bitchy post. Yay, random things!

On Thursday night, Thomas tried to abduct my Coke. He called me an addict when I noticed.

Visited my brother's family today. Watched their next door neighbours have a house auction with absolutely no bids. Chatted about various things, including the fact that the minimum length of CAT6 cable is not fifteen metres.

Going to act as tech support for my grandmother tomorrow. Probably mostly setting it back to Classic View, something we didn't think of. And also fixing her Internet connection, which is apparently also playing up. I told Dad we should have thrown away that "Get Internet from iPrimus!" CD her computer came with. *shrugs* It's possible that there might be something else stuffing her over, though - Dad's made some mention of BigPond (Yes, she's on BigPond) changing the setup system.

I should have a free webcam coming my way, since when we bought her the machine, we also got her Office, and she let me apply for the giveaway for myself, since the printer was out of stock and she didn't want either of the other items. I somehow doubt I'll actually use the thing, but hey, I'm never one to turn down free tech.

Speaking of which, Dad finally upgraded our 'net connection. Woo! ...Even if the Uni connection is probably still faster. *shrugs* So long as it actually stays faster than 8KB/s (the capped speed), the speed doesn't worry me overmuch.

Got two subjects, this semester - but still a 'full' study load at eighteen credit points. The Software Development Project, or SDP (as you'll probably hear me refer to it for the next four months), is a twelve point subject. "Hi, have a randomly allocated group of ten people. Now build a program to my spec!" Apparently they've changed the structure of SDP somewhat this semester, as well. Instead of two hours' group meeting, it's an hour's lecture and an hour's group meeting; presumably to cut down on costs. I don't know that that's a good sign, but okay...
The other subject, Intelligent Agents In Java, seems to have a fairly random collection of people doing it at the same time as myself - Rob is, as is Nora and Hagan... And I think someone else. Though there may be crossed lines at some point. *shrugs*

Therefore, my schedule for this semester is:
* Thursday morning: SDP.
* Thursday evening: ProgSoc.
* Friday evening: IAJ.
* Sunday morning: Dog training.
Which leaves plenty of time to work on the time eaters. I might be able to find time to do something else useful, as well. Like get cash. We'll see.

Plenty Of Paper by Eisley is an oddly addictive song.

ACS webpage meeting on Monday morning. Have to get to Parramatta by ten. Whee... Then lunch with them afterwards. Dad'll be heading in for a meeting at Uni in the afternoon, so I'll probably tag along and try and get some PHP practice done. Haven't done too much of it, yet.

I have to practice PHP. The stuff I'm currently trudging my way through in the spare moments is at the "Hello World!" level, where you can see what the results should be before you even begin. I've no doubt I'll get to the more interesting stuff soon, assuming I find the time. ...Which I really need to, before the Time Eaters get their claws on my soul. (Hi.)

...And I think that that's about it. See you later.

[mood | hyper]
[music |I'm Dying Tomorrow, Alkaline Trio]

Before I start the quotes, I should give you an explanation that will be background to several of them:

For those of you that remember, Thomas, in a fit of boredom, created Mm.exe. And later, at Chris' request, Nora.exe. (Both of which are still available here, if you have a machine that will run them.)

So, since it was Chris' idea to have Nora.exe, Nora and I decided that we should have a Chris.exe in retaliation. We tossed around several ideas: one that 'umm's and 'ahh's, and occasionally throws out some quote that I've collected from him. Eventually we simplified it: when triggered, it throws out this expression:
'[Random noun]'? Is that some kind of '[Different random noun]'?

...'Course, we haven't got around to building it, thus far. But Thomas searched up a random word generator, and we spent some time tossing examples to each other. "List" refers to either words taken from the generator, or phrases constructed from words from the generator.

I then wrote a sample algorithm on the board. Which included a very lazy 0.

Onwards!

Mm: How are those servers working?
Thomas: I set them up, and they're working perfectly.
Mm: So you haven't let Chris near them, then...
Thomas: I let him fondle the rack briefly....
*Mm cracks up. Chris looks confused.

List: Mnemonic, is that a kind of encouragement?
Mm: But it works better the other way...
List: Language, is that a kind of breeding?
Mm: Works better the other way, again.
Thomas: Breeding! It's the international language!

List: Footlocker, is that a type of rating?

Mm from List: Synonym!
*Mm giggles manically
James: ...Sometimes I worry about you, Margaret.
Thomas: Only sometimes?
James: Yeah, not all the time.
Thomas: Those times are called "sleeping"?

*DCom examines the lazy 0
DCom: It's a fat theta, lying on its side... It's a drunk theta! "Hey! Did I tell you about that time I went out on the town, just Theta and me? Oh, what a night that was..."

Nora: Hey, do you know what I did to my uncle?
Thomas: You killed him?
Nora: No, the other one.

*Thomas and Nora are leaving
Thomas: See you tomorrow. Oh, and Margaret? If you're still here at six o'clock tomorrow morning, I will not be impressed. Go home tonight.
*Mm salutes

*giggles* ...And now, at Thomas' command, I'm going home.

We're sitting on the ground and we whisper "Say what you're thinking, out loud"... [Aug. 16th, 2006|05:29 pm]

[mood | Was bouncy, now blah]
[music |Left Coast Envy, The Starting Line]

Ummm...

I probably shouldn't have skulled close to an entire can of Coke in the five minutes before my Net2 tute.

I freaked out about half the people in the room, including the tutor. I eventually bounced out of the room and took a lap of the building to calm down.

...Didn't really work. Oh well.

Other happenings today...

ICS lecture then Lab. They decided to give us yet another assignment today. Group work. Due in, a week from today. Worth 30% of our mark!!!??!!!?!? When we already have an assignment for that selfsame subject due on Monday (and then the second half of it due the following Monday). Normally each individual subject, at least, is pretty good about separating the assignments, aren't they? Bloody Hell. My group isn't too bad - sortof. Adrian's pretty good about working, but some guy, Ken, was without a group, so he joined us - and I don't know him at all.

Hour's break, in which I grabbed a quick bite to eat. And then practiced a couple of subnetting questions.

Three hour Net2 tute. Subnetting quiz, in which one of the questions made absolutely no sense whatsoever and I don't think had ever been covered - so I probably failed. As I said, I'd, uh, kind of skulled an entire can of Coke in like five minutes. So I proceeded to freak everyone out with sheer hyperness. The tutor handed back last week's written test. 3.5/10! Woo! ...Gah. What the Hell? Apparently the highest mark was 5.5. I'm not sure that that really makes me feel better.

After the lab, I babbled at Leena about Dell's Transition to XML and discovered I have no idea what the Hell I'm saying. And I have to talk about it tomorrow. Sigh. Back to several drawing boards, I guess.

And since the sugar high is rapidly wearing off, I'm now feeling moderately morose about the various failures of today. Gah.

OOD
* Attempt lab work
* Meet up with Adeline to work out assignment schedule/tasks/etc

Blame it on the second bottle of Coke. I know I do. [Mar. 8th, 2006|07:16 am]

[mood |Oh dear...]

Last night, I walked up to a guy that I only met once, a year ago, and started chatting to him like we were old friends. I'm quite sure he had no idea who I was, and I'm even more certain that when I walked away, he thought I was some weird creepy fangirl. I might not have been drunk last night, but I could definitely keep up with the guys, who were.

I amuse myself in strange ways, sometimes.

Mm is sleeeeeeeeepy... [Jul. 9th, 2005|07:22 am]

[mood | sleepy]
[music |Reconstruction Site, The Weakerthans]

Oh, by the gods, I'm tired.

It's 7AM. Normally that wouldn't phase me too much. But normally, I didn't get to bed at 4AM.

Beccy had a sleepover. It was supposedly a "study" thing, but I don't think we've successfully learnt anything. We've read through assorted study guides, and discussed over various elements of the content. But I'm not sure we've really achieved much in the discussions. Not for lack of trying, but yeah.

Eventually, we stopped trying, and ate. I wasn't hungry - I think the total of what I ate over the course of the evening was ten or so micro jelly frogs, a few Dairy Milk 'Chocettes', and about three glasses of Coke. By the end of it, Abby was saying "No more sugar for you, ever" because I couldn't stop laughing. Her catch phrase was "I broke her!"

We then watched A Walk To Remember. We were literally playing "Cliche Bingo" at various points in the film. We'd pause the movie, then place guesses as to the next line.

Dave spent the entire evening playing online poker. The 'ting' drove me a little nuts.

Richard got hit over the head a lot. He's probably got a concussion by now.

Abby tried to go to bed a couple of times. She got up again from an inability to sleep.

The general population (ie Beccy, Dave, Abby) started drifting to bed about 2:30. Richard and I chatted until quarter to four, and then went to bed.

I woke up three hours later, sighing at my body clock. I realised that I didn't really have a hope of getting back to sleep, so I stumbled down the stairs and booted up Tristian.

I'm going to go tag some more entries, as a nice mindless activity to perform while everybody else is intelligently asleep.
