They occasionally do events for Child's Play. They jumped at my suggestion that they have an event inspired by UWA's Charity Vigils. "We normally stay up anyway! Get people to pay us?!? Awesome!"
There you are, UCC. Your ideas are good. :p. -Mmaster
P.S. Speaking of UCC, is it just me, or have you guys been having a bunch of connectivity issues? I read the Planet, and the flow of posts just... stops... on a fairly frequent basis, followed by a flood of posts when the system is reset (I assume). |

James Andrewartha to me Hi Margaret, DeadJournal's run out of CAPTCHAs or something, so here's the comment I was going to post: We have - our flat-rate net connection (to avoid paying AARNet's prices) has been oversubscribed since uni went back in March, as it's also used by the college students. So the Planet script times out most of the time, and only gets a chance to catch up overnight. Fortunately they just doubled the overall connection speed ( http://netmap.ucs.uwa.edu.au/netmap/index.cgi?devip=10.203.1.1&ifdescr=GigabitEthernet1/0/1) so it should be more up to date from now on. For a while, we were pushing it through a proxy at my work which was an effective workaround. For some reason though we stopped using the proxy in June, although no-one can remember changing it.

Testing again to see if DJ pops up a CAPTCHA. Feel free to delete. http://ucc.asn.au/ Does a URL change things?
I remember that they basically block URLs from non-registered accounts as a spam-prevention technique (OpenIDs don't count as "Registered Accounts" in this, sadly). It makes for some very strange looking comments when anonymous users try to use links, especially if they make them HTML ones. ...The bots mostly use BBCode, bizarrely.

Yeah, I've stopped bothering linking properly in comments due to the ugly style. DJ claimed they've never even used CAPTCHAs, so who knows why I saw one. | |
