| | So Nice So Smart, Kimya Dawson | ] | Went to the Easter Show last night with Chris. We were taking advantage of the after 5 price, which is something like half the cost but only a third of the stuff is open.
Perhaps surprisingly, despite getting there at like 7 o'clock, we managed to find enough things open and active to keep ourselves occupied. Knowing the closing times of the pavillions helped focus efforts. We visited the things that were closing at 7:30 (Flowers and Fashion), then the things that were closing at 8 (Food hall) then the things that were closing at 8:30 (Lifestyle pavillion).
Chris and I both bought paintings at a stand in the lifestyle pavillion; it was a whole bunch of Chinese companies banding together and selling under one banner. They had some knockoffs of Old Masters (I saw Starry Night amongst the piles), some Chinese-style paintings, a few of trees and fields and the like, and a bunch of abstracts. I bought one of the abstracts; Chris got (I think) two abstracts - one large and one small - for himself, and a river/boat scene to decorate the walls at his work.
Next was the showbag pavillion, where we decided we didn't need any of them (and winced at the existence of Summer Heights High and David Hasselhoff showbags). After that we went on a handful of rides (The Ferris Wheel, The Rainbow, and the bumper cars), before wandering till we found somewhere still open for food at nearly ten o'clock.
It was a nice evening.
Now I want to make over my bedroom somewhat: get rid of the posters (probably save them in case I want them later), and replace them with a couple of framed images. Unfortunately, my furniature isn't really laid out for wall space. It's the best use of the room, definitely, but the double bunk and the tent take up a lot of space. The other thing is that I don't want anything framed with glass next to the bed; I used to have a framed picture on the wall within reach, and I flailed out in my sleep once and knocked it down and it shattered.
But yeah; for those that know what my room looks like (for those who don't, here's an example that's slightly outdated, but otherwise more or less correct)... Taking down all the posters. Keeping the mirror, the kite, the painted fan - probably rearranging them; also keeping the apron, but not trying to move it. I'm hoping to get hold of a print of Renoir's On The Terrace (the one I knocked down, way back when), get it framed, and add it somewhere, along with framing a longstitch I did a while back and maybe a print I bought when we were in America a couple of years back. Plus the picture I bought yesterday. Not sure how I'm going to lay them out, though. If I still have space after that lot, I could blow up a photo or two and add them as well, but I'm not sure which ones...
