I was in Brisbane for a couple of days this past week for work.
Some things that amused me: * The text scrawled on the floor of the train reading "Tupac 4 Life". Think you might be a bit late on that one. * The flight that was originally meant to be at 9.30, rescheduled to 9.15, then actually left at 10.05. Meaning I got in after 11.30. Yay. * The fact that the cab driver got lost and had to do a loop of the block to get to the hotel. * My incoherency as I tried to fill out forms after midnight. And then my inability to operate the lift five minutes later, despite having received instructions on how to do so. * The flyer in the hotel from advertising a massage company. And saying in big letters "Theraputic massage only. We do not offer sexual massage." * The king size bed that was wider than I am tall. * The fact that, despite exhaustion, I was so hyped up on stress I couldn't sleep. "Am I at the right hotel. Am I in the right CITY?" * The fact that I apparently get the "Hotel Caterers' sympathy vote". I asked the guy at the counter for a drink, and he gave it to me for free because he didn't have the money for change. (And that at the staff meeting the other week, the girl gave me Coke in a coffee cup, even though that wasn't normal procedure, So I'd be able to take it away.)
The conference was successful, though uneventful.
Yesterday Chris and I went on "Rail & Sail", a heritage train out to Newcastle and then a ferry back. Then went to Will's birthday party.
Today I tried to get my assignments done (and did a tiny bit of work, though still didn't really get anywhere). Then Chris and I went to Rhodes. I'd been planning on buying a bed, but then remembered that Ikea beds are taller than Australian ones, so I'd only be able to get linen from Ikea - less than ideal.
